Our Project Management Division expands

Launched in January, our Project Management Division is going from strength to strength. In recent months, we have worked closely with an architect on their design of a complex extension for a fellow of a Cambridge College. To do this, we deployed a full-time project manager, Eric Moor, who was present throughout. He helped guide the day-to-day activities and ensured the building was completed on time.

The client was delighted with the outcome. Not only was the work completed on time but we were able to achieve the high-quality finish that the project deserved.

This project has been quickly followed by work at Hills Road Sixth Form College. We are currently working with their Estates Bursar, Nigel Standbridge on the College’s “summer” programme of building maintenance. This project must be completed in time for the start of the new school year and once again we are using a full-time project manager to ensure this is achieved.

To recognize the significant contribution he has made to the business in the past eighteen months and particularly to our new project management approach, Andrew Pendle has been promoted to Contracts Manager.

Restored Yew Tree Cottage

Devasted by fire this 19th Century Grade 2 listed cottage on the Stansted Airport Estate required a major restoration project. The cottage was gutted following an accidental fire in the thatched roof. Little of the original timber-framed structure remained and it required a painstaking and sympathetic rebuilding programme, using materials that matched those in the original structure such as oak timber, thatch and lime mortar.

Using Eric Moor as a full-time on-site project manager, we worked closely with the building control and planning officers to ensure the exacting requirements of the Grade 2 listing were fully complied with. Drawing together a team of specialist craftsmen from across East Anglia, Eric ensured the restoration work was first class in all respects.

Mr. Michael Walker of Stansted Airport Limited who attended the handover was very complimentary.

Edward Thackray Building Limited was recommended to us. I had not come across them before, but we have been very pleased with the quality of the restoration. Their attitude and management of Health and Safety matched that of much larger contractors that we use on the airport.

Edward Thackray: “Following the completion of this project we have now been asked to handle a further restoration project on the Estate. We are delighted and are looking forward to working with the Airport again”.

Two new major projects

Edward Thackray UK Limited is pleased to announce that its Project Management Division has secured two new building contracts. Following the successful completion of a fire restoration project for Stansted Airport Limited we have been entrusted with a new renovation of a very large property on the same Estate. Work is now underway.

Using our project managed approach this work will be led by Eric Moor and a specialist team he has assembled to carry out the work. We have also secured a second major 12-week project to restore a basement suffering from damp and ingress of water. This needs a full tanking exercise to be carried out that will seal the basement. We are delighted to secure this specialist work and to continue to see growth in our Project Management Division.

Edward Thackray said “In 2011 in response to changes in the insurance market, we launched a Project Management Division. This has led to a series of larger scale projects for the insurance claims industry and in particular support from engineers and surveyors in East Anglia. These latest projects are a testimony to the hard work of my staff and I am delighted at the progress we are making.”
